Abdominal aneurysm is a disease that has abnormal dilatation of arterial wall, and it commonly occurs in wide arthery like aorta between renal and iliac artery. The symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysm sometime are hard to be found and it has many symptoms like other arteries problem.

Knowing the symptoms will make health care workers diagnose the abdominal aortic aneurysm disease better. Thus, let’s have a look to the symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysm as follow;

The Most Common Symptoms of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

1. Weak Peripheral Pulse

A symptom of abdominal aortic aneurysm is a peripheral pulse weak – distal or lower extremity like pulse in popliteal, dorsalis pedis, and femur artery.

This symptom occurs when the blood flow accumulated in aorta aneurysm. As we know that the aneurysms occurs while there is damage in artery wall and makes it swollen and accumulate the blood flow.

Assessing the pulse in lower extremity artery will prove that the pulse beat is palpable weaker than upper extremity. It might be different between right and left lower extremity artery. So the first symptoms of abdominal artery will guide health care workers in diagnosing the disease.

2. Hypotension

The second symptom of abdominal aortic aneurysm is hypotension. Hypotension is a condition where the blood pressure is lower than normal blood pressure. The normal blood pressure is in range 100/60 to 140/100 mmHg.

The hypotension usually occurs in lower body part like thigh and leg. The blood pressure from aorta does not spread evently in lower arteries.

The hypotension could be different from upper and lower extremity. Distinguishing the blood pressure should consider about it.
Back Pain

Back pain or lumbar pain is in lower back part. The pain can spread from it to other lower body parts like thigh and leg. The pain litterally indicates widen rupture in abdominal aortic aneurysm.

If the aneurysm is rupture, the stubbing pain will be felt. The pain indicates that there are much blood out of blood stream. The more blood out of the blood stream, the more pain felt.

3. Periumbilical Pain

No only back pain that is felt by the patient with abdominal aortic aneurysm, but also periumbilical pain. The pain in umbilical pain is around pubic area. The type of this pain is throbing pain.

This symtoms is not spreaded from lumbal pain, but it can be single or compliment pain.

4. Abdominal pain

The symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysm can make a pain. The pain is generally in abdominal area. Not only in umbilical area, but wider. This pain characteristic is severe and persistent, it is caused by severe bleeding or rupture into peritoneal cavity.

5. Shock

The next symptom of abdominal aortic aneurysm is shock. This kind of shock is shock volume that is caused by blood lost inside the peritoneal cavity.

The shock volume also has many symptoms like heavy breathing, low blood pressure, and weak pulse. This symptom is dangerous for the patient with abdominal aortic aneurysm. If it does not handle fast, life is in danger.

6. Sweaty

Sweat can be a symptom of many diseases generally. The sweat here is a sweat that secreted without significant exercise. It does not depend on activity or psychology changes.

The sweat is like an alarm that warns the body and it tells something happened inside the body.

7. Abnormal Systolic in Aorta

Aorta is the largest artery in the body. The aorta blood pressure beats abnormally. This abnormality is in aorta systolic.

To know the abnormal systolic in abnormal is known in blood pressure assessment. The systolic is usually longer and low in assessment result.

8. Tachycardia

Abdominal aortic aneurysm effects pulse beats. The rythm and pattern of pulse are usually tachycardia or fast pulse beat. Tachycardia is one of compensation system in the body. To fulfill the blood supply around lower body part, so the heart must beat harder to fulfill the blood demand.

This symptom of this abdominal aortic aneurysm can be assessed in palpation assessment. Normally the pulse beat about 80-120 times per minutes.

9. Palpable Aneurysm

In deep palpation, the aneurysm can be touched below the abdomen. The abdomen should relax and this palpation is only done by health care workers.

During this palpation, the abdominal aortic aneurysm can be rupture and do not try to palpate it without professional.

10. Weakness

Weakness is one of the abdominal aortic aneurysm symptoms that sometime is not known by the patient. Abdominal aortic aneurysm condition makes inadequate blood supply in half body part, especially in lower body part.

The patient usually has fatigue if they do some simple activity like walking or moving. So they tend to stay on bed to avoid fatigue.

The symptoms of abdominal aortic aneurysm are unique and some people perhaps only have one symptom. Knowing the symptoms will make better treatment and prognosis, so aware of those symptoms!
